Some easy maintenance tips
Not all maintenance needs to be done by the professional
There are many service items that you can do yourself to prolong the safety, reliability
and dependability of your vehicle. These translate to a longer-lasting vehicle, saving you one of
your most precious things - money!
Not all fluids are created equal
ALWAYS check the owner's manual to determine if your vehicle has specific fluids
needed. ALWAYS use distilled water in the battery. City water contains minerals and dissolved
solids that can reduce the life of the battery. Word of caution here - use gloves and eye
protection when servicing a battery! The sulfuric acid in the battery can inflict serious injury if not
handled properly! (Don't use city water in the cooling system or windshield washer system either.
Deposits will plug washer nozzles and the radiator.)
Be kind to your power windows or your arms
Power window motors and regulators are expensive. There is something the owner can
do to make the windows work easier and the motor/regulators last longer. Buy can of spray
Silicone and spray the rubber tracks the window runs up and down in at least once a month.
DO NOT use lubricants such as WD40 on the rubber. They contain petroleum and will make the
rubber deteriorate and get gummy.
Keep your eyes on the road!
